Temporary Helipad

Due to hospital construction, a temporary helipad will be in use in the practice soccer field across from Parking Structure 5 (PS-5), next to Sand Hill Road. This site will be in use from September through November to transfer Life Flight patients to the Emergency Department. On average, two to four flights will occur on the site per day. Each drop off takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Why is the Stanford University Medical Center Helipad temporarily moving?

In order to perform necessary repairs to the elevator that serves the helipad at Stanford Hospital & Clinics, a temporary helipad will be in use on the Stanford University campus on the practice soccer field near Sand Hill and Oak Roads.

How long will the helipad be located at the soccer fields?

The site will be in use beginning September 9, 2013 to transfer Life Flight patients to the Emergency Department at Stanford Hospital & Clinics. The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of November 2013.

Will non-patient helicopter transports use the temporary helipad?

No. All non-patient helicopter transports will continue to use the existing helipad on the roof of the hospital.

How many times a day do helicopters go to and from the medical center?

What will the flight pattern be for the helicopters?

The regular flight pattern will be for helicopters to approach from the southeast over Parking Structure 5 towards Sand Hill Road and then depart back toward the southeast. How will patients get to the hospital from the temporary location at the soccer fields?

A dedicated ambulance will serve the temporary helipad and transport patients to the Emergency Department via Campus Drive.

What will happen to the site after the elevator modernization is completed?

Once the project is completed at the end of November, the site will be re-sodded and returned to a practice soccer field.
