Welch Road is a vital thoroughfare linking Pasteur Drive and Quarry Road that provides access to and houses important medical facilities such as Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, The Richard M. Lucas Center for Imaging, the Stanford Cancer Center, outpatient clinics and more. As part of the system of upgrades to the Stanford Health Care campus, critical improvements to Welch Road and the buildings on it are underway.

The first phase of these improvements was completed in 2013, with the culmination of the Welch Road Utility Project. In addition to improving vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle access, underground utility upgrades and groundwork for information technology were the essential first phase in preparing the infrastructure for the medical center’s renovation and expansion.

As work on the project progresses, other facilities and clinics will need to relocate so the demolition of the original 1959 buildings can occur and new, seismically-safe, modern buildings can be built in their place.
